” I loved Tristan and Alexandria’s story. It left me wanting more on how their relationship progressed. I hope we get more books from The Rules series.” ~M
Newly broke girl Alexandria Asher just wants to live a normal life. After her parents are sent to prison on embezzlement charges, she enrolls in college under her mother’s maiden name and tries her best to pretend she’s someone else.
Tristan Prescott is everything Alex is trying to avoid. A seemingly egotistical, lazy, rich jerk, she dumps her beer on his head when he comes on to her one night at a party. This only spurs Tristan into action. He loves nothing more than a challenge. And the beautiful Alex is exactly the type of challenge that intrigues him.
Despite her reluctance, Alex finds herself quickly involved with Tristan. Underneath that playboy exterior is a good guy, a sweet and sexy guy who she is undoubtedly falling for. What they both don’t realize is the actions of Alex’s parents are the reason for so much tragedy in Tristan’s family. And when Tristan discovers who Alex and her family really is, can he forgive and forget?
Tristan is a sexy, rich, and heartless. He is a womanizer. He is a hit it and quit it type of man and doesn’t want a woman to tie him down. He finds his best friends Shep and Gabe pussy whipped since they got girlfriends, Jade and Lucy. (Check out their books Fair Game & In the Dark)
It all changed one Halloween night for Tristan and it would never be the same.
Alexandria (Alex) is beautiful, sweet, and untouchable. She is running from a past she wants nobody to know about and trying to start a new life. She has her mind set on staying away from getting close to people, making friendships, guys/relationships, and focusing on school.
When you have trouble in the past with friends and guys just wanting things from you, then you tend to establish walls and try to stay away from that which is what Alex attempts to do. When you go from a rich girl to selling all your expensive things, reality sets in and you become aware of what you want in life and how you want friendships and relationships to be.Alex starts to make friends and she soon realizes that people like her for her and she starts living again.
This story was told in alternating POV from Tristan and Alexandria. I have found that I am liking this more and more because I get inside both of the characters head especially when both of them are stubborn like Tristan and Alex.
I loved that Alex played hard to get with Tristan. It wasn’t what Tristan normally encounters with women and he found that a little more intriguing especially when his friends told him to stay away from her. He kept putting his foot in his mouth every time he opened it when talking to Alex. Alex didn’t put up with his blunt talk about fucking either but that didn’t stop her from being intrigued herself with Tristan. They both felt the electrifying chemistry between them during their first meeting. Alex wanted Tristan to prove that she was more than a conquest not just with words but with actions. Tristan started to find ways to spend time with her even if it was tutoring her and Kelli in statistics early on a Sunday morning. Alex does go on a date with a geeky guy named Steven but the chemistry is non-existent and she can’t stop thinking about Tristan and later finds out that Steven might be crushing on someone else? HUH? Every relationship has it good times, bad times, and struggles because if it didn’t then how would a couple grown stronger and form a solid bond. Tristan has a lot of self doubt and just doubt in general about relationships because he didn’t grow up with the best examples but he knows for once in his life Alex (Angel, Ali, Alexandria) is someone he cares about, would do anything for her, and spending time with her is not a chore or something that doesn’t interest him. Alex finds herself wanting more with Tristan and wants to label their relationship but Tristan’s doubt and thinking might get in the way of that. Can Tristan shove the doubt away and make a commitment to Alex? Tristan doesn’t chase after girls and doesn’t put in effort to get the girl he wants they flock to him. Is Alex’s secret so big that it will drive Tristan away or bring them closer together? Will “LOVE and EXTREMELY SCORCHING CHEMISTRY” conquer all?
Oh and let me not forget the sex is sweaty, hard, and sexy as $&%?.
The banter between the these two is funny, witty, and HOT. All the dialogue among the characters keeps you interested. I loved Kelli (Alex Best Friend) and all her craziness. Monica has a way of giving you enough of all the supplemental characters to make you love them as much as the main ones.
I feel like this story developed great and I really connected with Tristan and Alex. Slow Play was very well written and I have to say the only thing I wish was I had more of the relationship and how it progressed towards the end. I felt it the problem came late and then the story was ending but that didn’t take away from the overall love or enthrallment I got from this book. I would love to have a more from this series and see all the couples a few years later, would get have kids, be married, and all still be friends? Did the worries they had early on in their relationships fade away and they definitely all lived happily ever after?
You might be wondering what happened but I am not telling you, this book is a must read. I will tell you this you won’t be disappointed. You also realize that you can’t always judge a book by what other people tell you and sometimes have to dive in head first and find out for yourself because “when you know you just know.”
I am never disappointed by Monica’s books and I can’t wait for the next book.
