From the author of the New York Times bestselling Bad Boys novels comes the second book in a dark, sexy contemporary trilogy.

MLeighton-ToughEnough-Cover250pxHe’s a fighter who never loses, but is he tough enough to win her heart?

There was a time when I had everything–a wonderful family, a bright future. Love. But all that was taken away in a single night, torn from me like flesh from bone. Since then, I’ve hidden away in my second-choice job as a makeup artist. But I prefer it that way, actually. I’m comfortable in the shadows, where no one can see my scars.

Kiefer Rogan literally took my breath away the moment I met him. MMA champion-turned-actor, notorious playboy, charming to a fault—he’s everything I vowed to avoid.

But he just wouldn’t stop until I opened up and let him in. Maybe I should’ve tried harder to resist him. Maybe I shouldn’t have fallen in love with him. Because I, of all people, know that everyone has secrets. Scars. And that they’re usually ugly and painful and destructive to the people we love most.

I just never guessed that they could be deadly, too.

When you think you know what’s happening, you’re only half way there.

I went to her every day and waited.  Waited for the impossible, for a sign, for her to look at me … hoping sinner are granted miracles, too.

Just one glimpse of him was all it took. In the next lane, at a stop light was the man I would fall in love with and marry.  People talk about love that takes time – the kind you fall in to. We were more like a crash and burn. When our lives intertwined I knew I would never be the same.  He was the man I would cherish the rest of my life, who would father my children. In an instant our life together began, and in an instant it would end.  The late nights; the excuses; the lies. And in the blink of an eye, it was like we never were.

Review – Slow Play (The Rules #3) by Monica Murphy

Slow Play Cover

” I loved Tristan and Alexandria’s story. It left me wanting more on how their relationship progressed. I hope we get more books from The Rules series.” ~M

Synopsis

Newly broke girl Alexandria Asher just wants to live a normal life. After her parents are sent to prison on embezzlement charges, she enrolls in college under her mother’s maiden name and tries her best to pretend she’s someone else.

Tristan Prescott is everything Alex is trying to avoid. A seemingly egotistical, lazy, rich jerk, she dumps her beer on his head when he comes on to her one night at a party. This only spurs Tristan into action. He loves nothing more than a challenge. And the beautiful Alex is exactly the type of challenge that intrigues him.

Despite her reluctance, Alex finds herself quickly involved with Tristan. Underneath that playboy exterior is a good guy, a sweet and sexy guy who she is undoubtedly falling for. What they both don’t realize is the actions of Alex’s parents are the reason for so much tragedy in Tristan’s family. And when Tristan discovers who Alex and her family really is, can he forgive and forget?

Slow Play Teaser 1

Review

Tristan is a sexy, rich, and heartless. He is a womanizer. He is a hit it and quit it type of man and doesn’t want a woman to tie him down. He finds his best friends Shep and Gabe pussy whipped since they got girlfriends, Jade and Lucy. (Check out their books Fair Game & In the Dark)

Slow Play Teaser 2

It all changed one Halloween night for Tristan and it would never be the same.

Alexandria (Alex) is beautiful, sweet, and untouchable. She is running from a past she wants nobody to know about and trying to start a new life. She has her mind set on staying away from getting close to people, making friendships, guys/relationships, and focusing on school.

When you have trouble in the past with friends and guys just wanting things from you, then you tend to establish walls and try to stay away from that which is what Alex attempts to do. When you go from a rich girl to selling all your expensive things, reality sets in and you become aware of what you want in life and how you want friendships and relationships to be.Alex starts to make friends and she soon realizes that people like her for her and she starts living again.

This story was told in alternating POV from Tristan and Alexandria. I have found that I am liking this more and more because I get inside both of the characters head especially when both of them are stubborn like Tristan and Alex.

I loved that Alex played hard to get with Tristan. It wasn’t what Tristan normally encounters with women and he found that a little more intriguing especially when his friends told him to stay away from her. He kept putting his foot in his mouth every time he opened it when talking to Alex. Alex didn’t put up with his blunt talk about fucking either but that didn’t stop her from being intrigued herself with Tristan. They both felt the electrifying chemistry between them during their first meeting. Alex wanted Tristan to prove that she was more than a conquest not just with words but with actions. Tristan started to find ways to spend time with her even if it was tutoring her and Kelli in statistics early on a Sunday morning. Alex does go on a date with a geeky guy named Steven but the chemistry is non-existent and she can’t stop thinking about Tristan and later finds out that Steven might be crushing on someone else? HUH? Every relationship has it good times, bad times, and struggles because if it didn’t then how would a couple grown stronger and form a solid bond. Tristan has a lot of self doubt and just doubt in general about relationships because he didn’t grow up with the best examples but he knows for once in his life Alex (Angel, Ali, Alexandria) is someone he cares about, would do anything for her, and spending time with her is not a chore or something that doesn’t interest him. Alex finds herself wanting more with Tristan and wants to label their relationship but Tristan’s doubt and thinking might get in the way of that. Can Tristan shove the doubt away and make a commitment to Alex? Tristan doesn’t chase after girls and doesn’t put in effort to get the girl he wants they flock to him. Is Alex’s secret so big that it will drive Tristan away or bring them closer together? Will “LOVE and EXTREMELY SCORCHING CHEMISTRY” conquer all?

Slow Play Teaser 3

Oh and let me not forget the sex is sweaty, hard, and sexy as $&%?.

The banter between the these two is funny, witty, and HOT. All the dialogue among the characters keeps you interested. I loved Kelli (Alex Best Friend) and all her craziness. Monica has a way of giving you enough of all the supplemental characters to make you love them as much as the main ones.

I feel like this story developed great and I really connected with Tristan and Alex. Slow Play was very well written and I have to say the only thing I wish was I had more of the relationship and how it progressed towards the end. I felt it the problem came late and then the story was ending but that didn’t take away from the overall love or enthrallment I got from this book. I would love to have a more from this series and see all the couples a few years later, would get have kids, be married, and all still be friends? Did the worries they had early on in their relationships fade away and they definitely all lived happily ever after?

You might be wondering what happened but I am not telling you, this book is a must read. I will tell you this you won’t be disappointed. You also realize that you can’t always judge a book by what other people tell you and sometimes have to dive in head first and find out for yourself because “when you know you just know.”

I am never disappointed by Monica’s books and I can’t wait for the next book.

5 STAR

“This book hit close to home for me with the story line. It’s a must read series and you will be on the edge of your seat wanting more from Emma Chase.” – M

Synopsis

A knight in tarnished armor is still a knight.

When you’re a defense attorney in Washington, DC, you see firsthand how hard life can be, and that sometimes the only way to survive is to be harder. I, Jake Becker, have a reputation for being cold, callous, and intimidating—and that suits me just fine. In fact, it’s necessary when I’m breaking down a witness on the stand.

Complications don’t work for me—I’m a “need-to-know” type of man. If you’re my client, tell me the basic facts. If you’re my date, stick to what will turn you on. I’m not a therapist or Prince Charming—and I don’t pretend to be.

Then Chelsea McQuaid and her six orphaned nieces and nephews came along and complicated the ever-loving hell out of my life. Now I’m going to Mommy & Me classes, One Direction concerts, the emergency room, and arguing cases in the principal’s office.

Chelsea’s too sweet, too innocent, and too gorgeous for her own good. She tries to be tough, but she’s not. She needs someone to help her, defend her…and the kids.

And that — that, I know how to do.

Review

This book was amazing, I loved Overruled in this series but this book spoke to me and I could truly relate.

Let me start off by saying that when something horrible happens in your life and other people are involved that you love, you don’t look at the negative but you must look at the positive and how you can help your loved ones.

Jake is a sexy, smart, witty attorney in Washington DC for a top law firm. He doesn’t take shit from anyone and can get any girl that he wants. When he meets Chelsea because he gets pick pocketed by her nephew, there is no denying that his sights are sent on her.

Chelsea is 26 years old and has received custody of her 6 nieces and nephews because of a tragic accident that involved her brother and sister-n-law leaving them without parents. Chelsea is strong and takes over the responsibility of carrying for kids leaving behind a life in California and school. She would do anything for these 6 kids because it’s just natural when you love someone.

Jake seems like a total hard ass because he is set on a schedule but when he meets Chelsea and starts to interact with her and the kids that all changes. The chemistry between Jake and Chelsea is OFF THE CHARTS HOT and they seems to be meant to be. Jake struggles with knowing if Chelsea and the family of 6 fit into his life but he can’t deny that his heart is opening to this family and what happens is amazing. What we have planned out for our lives doesn’t always work but the alternative plan can be extraordinary.

This book really spoke to me and made me extremely emotional. The 6 kids in this book just lost their parents and are trying to cope with life without them in it, though they live in the same house it’s just different when someone besides your parents are now caring for you. The reason this book spoke to me was because I know the struggle of leaving everything behind to take care of someone or someones you love, it’s not easy but you wouldn’t not do it because when someone needs you, your mentality changes. Emma Chase did an amazing job writing this story because Child Protective Services isn’t a very helpful agency and they wait for you to mess up, so they can pounce on you for your wrong doing. The research done for this novel was great and was true to real life. I would do anything for my niece who I have had since she was 6 and now is 14 years old and I know that Chelsea would do the same for her 6 nieces and nephews because that’s just what you do. I understand everything that Chelsea went through and to find someone to help you through the process of caring for someone while you are still learning to parent is also a blessing and Chelsea definitely found that in Jake (I would be lost without my now husband). I can’t even express fully how this book made me feel but I know that I can’t wait for the next book by Emma Chase in the Legal Brief series. BRAVO!

This book is a must read and I promise you that you won’t be left disappointed.

Review – The Talented Mr. Maxwell – By Julia Harlow

Pageflex Persona [document: PRS0000035_00034]

4 12 stars

” I loved the chemistry between the couple in this book and have a better appreciation of the modeling world.” ~M

Synopsis

Grant Maxwell is at the apex of his career. Unfortunately the end of his run looms before him. At thirty-four, scores of younger, hungrier models nip at his heels, vying for his spot at the pinnacle of the fashion realm. And he has no earthly idea what to do next.

In the midst of an unlikely and tumultuous love affair with Grant, Dorrie is suddenly forced into making an agonizing decision. It’s a decision that shatters Grant’s heart.

Step onto the volatile runway of fashion modeling packed to the hilt with clashing egos, impossibly gorgeous men, backstabbing, and biting jealousy. And caught in the snare of the dramatic intrigue? Dorrie Applegate and Grant Maxwell

Review

I absolutely loved this book. You might be asking me why I didn’t give it a full 5 stars and I would say because I would have maybe liked to read the book from the characters POV. I think it would have added that extra little depth into the minds of the characters but it did not take away from the fact that I definitely connected with these characters.

Dorrie Applegate is new to New York City and her first assignment is to write a biography about the most sought after model in the world. She is very tenacious, has lots of drive, loves her career, and excited about the new adventure that this job is going to take her. She is a beautiful but doesn’t think very highly of herself but when she meets the right person on her way to London to interview the gorgeous model, she meets Henry Charles who thinks differently about Dorrie.

Henry Charles is a gorgeous man on his way to London for work. He is a breath-taking man with bronze skin, chiseled bone structure, and piercing blue eyes (<you get the picture, right?). He strikes up a conversation with Dorrie on the plane, after she gropes the guy in her sleep and makes it very hard for Dorrie to concentrate on her task at hand. When they both land in London, Henry offers to give Dorrie a ride in his limo to her hotel.

Will there be a romance that is sparked between the two while they are both in London?

The stories goes into Dorrie waking up to a message on her hotel phone informing her that there is a small bar/lounge from her hotel and that he will be there at 9pm and he hopes that she can join him. Dorrie makes the decision to have a night out and gets dressed up to go to meet the Adonis. Henry and Dorrie immediately hit it off and the chemistry is off the charts. They are very into each other and they end up, you know fooling around orally. The next morning Dorrie wakes up in a panic because she is late for the interview of her life and pushes out her companion from last night but not without saying she hopes they can meet up again. Dorrie walks into the interview prepared to start when she gets a shocking reality….. Henry Charles is actually Grant Maxwell, the most wanted model in the world. She is at a lost for words and doesn’t know what to do but to RUN. Grant runs after her but doesn’t find her and Dorrie goes back to New York and swears she can do the interview which in turns makes her lose her job. Grant doesn’t stop until he can get Dorrie and says that he won’t do the interview with anyone but Dorrie, so her firm has no choice but to get her back.

I do have to say I didn’t expect Henry to be Grant and thought Dorrie would react differently.

What happens after Dorrie goes back to interview Grant Maxwell and has to travel with him to all of his shoots because he schedule is so crazy? Is the extreme sexual and intimate chemistry still sparking between the two of them? Do they last for the long haul or does something tear them apart? Does fame get in the way of such an amazing couple together or will they find something better with someone else?

From the moment I read the first chapter there was no putting this book down for me. I wanted more of this couple and how there relationship progressed. The chemistry and the electrifying feeling that Dorri and Grant (Henry) have for each other just kept me enthralled the entire time and I do have to say that the sex in this book is like WOW! The time line in how this book progressed was perfect. I know you are wanting me to tell you if there was a Happily Ever After because that is what we all seek in a book but I can’t tell you that, but what I can tell you is that everything happens as it should. I definitely want more from these characters. Julia definitely gives you everything you want in this book happiness, sexiness, hot sweatiness, sadness, heartbreak, and just straight up WHAT WERE YOU THINKING. I was definitely cheering for Dorrie and Grant the entire time through this story. I also felt so many emotions for Grant because if the modeling industry is anything like what Grant goes through I would hate it. This is definitely a must read and a book I would hope for even a novella. Julia Harlow is an amazing author and I expect good things from her in the future.
